ASIAN SEASONING MIX (3 WAYS)

BASIC ~ MUSHROOM ~ SPICY

Like ramen noodle soup but don’t like all the unpronounceable additives, MSG, and those “I’m-not-sure-what-that-word-actually-means” ingredients? Here are three versions of an Asian seasoning blend that make a wonderful bowl of that college budget staple. These are so flavorful, you’ll use them for more than just soup….think salad dressings, marinades, and dips!

Yields: about 1/3 cup

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: N/A

  • 1 Tablespoon GINGER POWDER

  • 1 Tablespoon NUTRITIONAL YEAST

  • ¼  teaspoon CHINESE 5 SPICE POWDER

  • ¼ teaspoon GROUND MUSTARD

  • ½ teaspoon SALT

  • 1/8-1/4 teaspoon CAYENNE

DIRECTIONS

  1. Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

  2. Use as seasoning, to taste, in any recipe you wish to impart an asian flare. See Notes, below, for additional suggestions.

NOTES

  • This recipe will double comfortably.

  • Don’t like a certain spice? Leave it out! Wish there was more…something? Add it!

  • Make your own mushroom powder using properly prepared mushrooms dehydrated and ground to a fine powder. You can easily do the same by drying parsley, ginger, onion, cayenne peppers, garlic, and others. It’s much easier than one might think and the flavors are incredible.

  • For ramen noodle soup, use 1-2 teaspoons in 8-10 ounces boiling water. Add noodles of choice (such as quick prep rice noodles) and cook according to package directions.

  • Mix in to sour cream or yogurt for a tasty dip. Start with 1 teaspoon for every cup. Adjust up/down according to your taste.

  • Sprinkle on prepared foods for a bit of sass.

  • Use in place of seasoning packet in favorite semi-homemade salad dressing.

  • Add to preferred oil and marinate meat, fish, or veggies.

  • Make your own stir fry with this seasoning and a bit of coconut aminos. Just sprinkle and splash to your liking toward the end of sautéing your preferred ingredients, toss and serve!

  • As articulated in the What’s for Dinner article, always aim for the highest quality ingredients.
